Welcome to the Skating Association of Maine (SAM). This page provides some of the basic information you need to get started.

Welcome to the family!

Each level requires a full set of hockey equipment to participate (see checklist).   Play It Again offers previously used gear that can make the hockey experience more affordable.  The association may also be able to help with some loaner equipment. 

• Skates – make sure your kids are properly fitted for skates.  Buying skates is much different than shoes and kids do not wear the same size as their shoe. 
• Hockey Socks - Can be purchased at the Kennebec Skate Shop at the rink. 
• Helmet
• Shin Guards
• Supporter/cup/garter belt – these items are now integrated into one piece of equipment
• Hockey pants or girdle
• Shoulder Pad
• Elbow Pads
• Gloves
• Jersey - You will be required to provide your own practice jersey. Game jerseys will be provided for games by the association. 
• Neck guard
• Stick 
• Mouth guard

Water bottle and Tape (for your stick) is also recommended.
